Meet the founder

Inspired by Balinese craftmanship and her parents’ passion for supporting the local artisans on the island of Gods, London native Cloe Cassandro founded her eponymous label in 2016. Working several jobs at the time, amongst others for designer Stella McCartney, she used her background as a fashion stylist to produce her first lookbooks and approach buyers, and was quickly taken on by stockist all over Europe.

Cloe never really wanted to run a business, but looking at her parents - her dad an entrepreneur that later became her mentor, and her mother blessed with a flawless way of putting outfits together with such love and passion, it’s easy to understand why founding her label was handed to her. Yet her growth was something that happened very organically.

Inspired by what her parents had done for Erik, a local tailor Cloe’s mother met when her parents first traveled to Bali over 15 years ago, and the very first tailor they’ve produced clothes with with the aim of helping him out of poverty, Cloe has always wanted to do something with a purpose. She always had a good eye for something that would sell, and she just knew what her mother had created using silk chiffon fabric had legs to be something more.

It’s impossible to talk about Cloe Cassandro without talking about the rich Balinese history of Batik, traditionally made in Indonesia. It’s a dying art, which she wanted to keep alive by founding the brand. To date, each of her silk-chiffon cover-ups is crafted, dyed and printed entirely by hand, inspired by classic shapes, timeless design and heritage brands, while staying true to good quality and timeless styles that don’t go out of fashion, designed for the ‘Cloe Woman’, an independent girl that understand true craftsmanship and has appreciation for timeless designs. Sometimes a little sexy, sometimes tomboy and fun.

I would say there has been huge highlights throughout this process, from securing my first stockists in Marbella, to Heidi Klein, beautiful boutiques such as the Aman and One and Only and of course launching on Net has been a real dream come true.

Cloe follows her parents footsteps, that’s for sure. She wanted her brand to be one with integrity - treating everyone in the right way whether it’s the people that work for me, my customers and my buyers. So if she could somehow emulate her parents’ story, she was happy.
